Master Plan Map

Prairie Crossing site plans went through multiple revisions over the decade-long development period, as different concepts were explored. The master plan that was built-out features a blend of larger field and prairie lots combined with the cozier Village Green and Station Village lots where sidewalks draw residents together with a small-town ambiance. The neighborhood is tied together with a series of trails, sidewalks and streets and includes many small and large common areas where residents gather, including the popular sandy beach on Lake Aldo Leopold, and playgrounds interspersed throughout the community. The Station Square commercial area and two Metra train stations anchor the southern end of the community while the western edge is the working landscape of the certified organic farm that’s nestled inside and around Prairie Crossing. The Prairie Crossing Charter School and Byron Colby Barn create a strong presence on the northeast entrance to the community while the glittering Lake Aldo Leopold serves as a community centerpiece, visible from as many of the 359 homes surrounding it as possible.
